Safety only. They have no power to stop traffic. Unless the name is Mick Wallace :)

No legal rights over a lay person, only there to advise.

Same rights as a bystander standing at a roundabout. Unless they're a Guard...

If a person in charge of animals gives a signal to slow down or stop, you must obey it. Avoid using your horn if animals are in front of you, as it might frighten them.

So we just put some livestock on the corners/junctions with each set of marshals and then they gain these powers :pac:

That's a very pragmatic suggestion. In the case of some competitors however, it would be unnecessary.

In this country it seems to me that donning a €2 hi-viz jacket gives all encompassing powers to any yahoo to stop traffic

That reminds me of the little jobsworth security man who used to work in the old Superquinn in Swords. He would regularly stop traffic on the Main Street to allow "his" customers to exit. He threatened to report me to the Gardai several times (ironically situated next door) when I refused to stop for him. I used to hope he would but alas, I never heard anything.

...back on topic...in my experience most motorists comply with the requests of marshalls but for some, it is out of ignorance of the law rather than courtesy.

    In a nutshell
