Do you mean car derived van eg a focus astra 307 van.
I am on my second car derived van. First was an astra van 1.3cdti now I have a focus 1.6tdci van. Tbh if I had to pick the best car van in my opinion it would be an astra 1.7cdti and I regret not buying one now tbh. So that's what is be going for anyway.

If it's going very well then why not hold onto it? By moving up a few years you're letting go of a car you're familiar with and know is 'going very well' and getting a car that has the potential of being a lemon.

What's a good one? The fact is the old Toyota 2.0D engine was a very well designed indestructible engine. The 1.9 pug engined that replaced it wasn't as well designed, was a less reliable unit and was slower and more unrefined than the older Toyota unit it replaced.

Really? Then tell me why they replaced it. Where's your source of this information?

What experience have you got with both engines? Ever work on either of them? Build either of them? Service either of them? Which is easier to work on? What injection system does the 2.0D have?

Ever drive a toyota with either engine? What's the driving experience like? How well does the 2.0 pull? How well does the 1.9 pull? What's the mpg like?

Have some sort of answer, because I sure can answer any of those questions I've just asked ;)

As far as i know the 2.0d toyota was discontinued because of emission restrictions .The pug engine must have been cleaner unit. Both engines are very durable units ,both units were far more driveable in turbo form. The same engine also in the avensis turbo diesel continued on till the year 2000 when the d4d appeared from then on.

Wow. Back to this load of bollox again. "Toyota is better than everything else" bullsh*te again. And I thought we were over this nonsense

And there I went actually taking time to write somewhat of a decent response. How foolish of me, I've wasted my time :(

Prove it. Document it. Reference it. Then I might just entertain such utter crap in future

Apologies to the proper Toyota heads, I'm just trying to make a point here. Not a personal hit I hope but I can't stand this utter childish moronic monotonous drivel spewed out like projectile diarrhoea at times

Pretty much. Toyota were working on the launch of the D4D at the time to co-incide with Euro 3 in 2001. No point continuing on with an engine that wouldn't pass, launched and teething problems ironed out in time.

That engine is in the Carina and Lite Ace too as well as various jdm vehicles in the 80s and 90s

Get a grip of yourself, you are responsible for more drivel than alot of poster on here so quit the crap. What I am talking about is not drivel, It's personal experience of owning and working on both models., A pre facelift 98 bug eye van with the Toyota engine and a facelift 00 Corolla van with the pug unit. What experience have you got with these vans?

I know what I am talking about, I am not making sh1t up. Maybe you would like to talk to other owners of both, I am sure they will confirm my experience. I never once said that Toyota was better than everything else. I could accuse you of talking the same ''nonsense'' with regards to your beloved fiat's and 406s but I won't stoop to your level.

Finally, some sense! But can I be heard from up there

I see this trend quite often.... It's very tiresome

What experience have I got? Well... How does working on and driving various E100's/E110's sound? Or maybe a Lite ace? Sure they run forever but could you can't fart round the engine bay making it quite tricky in places. Changing an alternator in one was a right pain in the arse for example!

Why can't those experiences be documented more often? Actual experiences. Statements backed up with experiences. Instead of bland generic opinions. Inside My Octopus, of course. But of course, I'm taking drivel

One doesn't have to go far to see the kind of work I put into maintaining/restoring a vehicle. Plenty of posts of my work. Who knows, people often see my drivel as quite useful. Wow, people find my drivel quite useful, how about that....

Go on then, try me with Fiat's and Pugs. See if I give a hoot. Better back it up with cold hard facts though. I'm not stooping to that level, how low can one get

Just because I said The 2.0D was a superior engine to the pug unit and recommended some Toyota's in other threads doesn't mean that im saying that Toyota is better than everything else does it?

    Ever change a cam belt in a 406 1.9d?

It's a trend full stop. It wouldn't be as tiresome if there were actual accounts of experiences.

    Eg
"Buy the toyota and nothing else" rubbish

"Buy the toyota, I have had/driven/experience with brand x, y and z also and find with the/my toyota it performs better in this aspect and aspect" Sounds much better.

See my point? Why not write something similar about the engines if that' the case?

Dead simple, daunting at first. Hardest part is the crank pulley bolt. Tensioner spring can be fiddly to get back on if replacing the tensioner
