IPOD won't Sync

I plug in my IPOD Nano and it comes up on the screen "Sychronizing – do not disconnect". About 30 seconds later it goes too "Connected – eject before disconnecting". Nothing is actually transferred - any ideas?? I have nothing on my nano as I changed the IPOD Nano back to factor settings. HELP!

Are you physically going into itunes, selecting what you want and then syncing it?
