Polished Concrete Floor in Cork?

    Hi all,

I'm shortly starting a full refurb & extension on a house. It a 3 bed semi, and going with a contemporary style.

Will be putting in new a floor downstairs, and I'm considering a polished concrete floor - suggested by my architect, and pictures I've looked at online seem great too - but I've never actually seen one, or stood on one! (at least not consciously!)

I'd like to see some examples before I commit, so anybody know of any polished concrete floors that I can go to see in the Cork area, even in a commercial building?

    Tim

    Hi Tim,

Also considered concrete floor and saw one in the Triskel, but really wasn't impressed, lots of cracks and varying degrees of colours. Roadstone came to the site with examples of concrete - to be honest, it's so new, they really couldn't guarantee the colour of the final mix. The polisher was reluctant to take on job, as if the mix was wrong the cement wouldn't set properly - the end result would have been quite shiny and ad hoc.
In the end we went for 50cmx50cm limestone tiles with the very minimum of grout (maybe 2mm). I am so relieved we didn't go for the concrete - I love the tiles! They aren't shiny, have lots of natural elements and it was an easy process (ie not waiting for the concrete and screed to dry)
Also house is contemporary. Good look with whatever you choose.

Thanks Missy - I'm just putting together the spec, so will be nice to have other options when I get the quotes back and start to cry :p

Didn't know the Triskel had it - that's exactly what I was looking for, some examples - will check it out!

    Tim
