Anybody any idea of where I could get two bags of Silica sand (for paving) in Dublin this Saturday afternoon. Silly me I called over to Roadstone in Tallaght ayt 12 - it was closed. TJ O'Mahonys in Ballymount have only one tonne bags in stock.

You would have got it in Heiton Buckleys or Smiths Builders Providers at the back of Balymount.

Did you try B&Q in Liffey Valley. You "might" be lucky.

Expect to pay around 7-8 euro for a bag of it.

Make sure the bags you buy are dry and not spit/ruptured.

No point in opening a bag to find that the sand is damp/wet.....as it wont brush into the paver gaps if its anyway damp.

B&Q also sell cement type bags of Lafarge kiln dried jointing sand.

Yellow paper type bag with blue circle on it.

Thats another option for you, just incase they dont have any of their own jointing/paving sand available.

Can anyone tell me the coverage of a bag of silica. I'm trying to replace the washed out sand after power washing. The driveway is about 70 sq yards of cobble lock. I'm guessing 1 bag might do it as there is only about half a bag washed out of it. Thanks

Coverage depends on dept/width of joint but I find a good guide is 4 10 kg bags covers and fills around 35 Sam standard joints.
