I'm teaching in a primary school for three years now and I had someone from Cornmarket come in last week to go through my payslip for payment protection/pensions etc. He noticed that I am only getting paid for a pass degree but I have an honours degree (2.1). He said I should be getting paid more and am owed money back. I did the postgraduate course in Pats however and I'm guessing that we probably don't get as much of a qualification allowance as teachers who have the primary degree. Tried ringing payroll offices all week but couldn't get through.

thats one to ask your union i would think as they will clarify the situation, you might get someone in payroll who doesn't know what your qual is.

It doesn't matter whether someone has done a concurrent teaching degree, or a degree plus a hdip. I would say the guy from cornmarket is correct, and you should be in line for back pay.
You need to email the payroll section in the department because even if you get through on the phone this is what they will tell you to do.
If you don't get a satisfactory response then contact your union.

Sometimes degrees are only pass degrees regardless of the result.I know froebels 3yr primary undergrad degree used to be pass degree so they could only get pass allowance

Do you have an honours primary degree, (i.e., your BA, BSc., etc.) or is it your postgrad qualification that's honours? This matters.

These two might help (or might not!)

I just rang my union and they said the same that it's the BA degree that matters. I got a 2.2 in one of my subjects and a 3 class honours in the second. It averages out as a 2.2 but my transcripts don't say if it's seen as an honours or a pass degree.

And what does your degree parchment say? This should tell you (and the world) whether it's an honours degree or not.
