    For those of us who became hooked on Cycling after reading his book in the 80's some good comments in the thread.

    His advice on how to deal with dogs did come to mind recently when being chased up an endless hilly lane by an aggressive mutt.

    A lifetime advocate of Cycling that truly deserves a mention on Boards. RIP.

    I had a book he co authored with another Richard from back in the 90s. I can still picture some of the pages in my mind. Must see if I can dig it out. RIP

    I didn't realise he was deaf until I read it on that link. ...And his parents owned Ballantine Books - I have dozens of them at home.
