Screen gone very dark

I have an eMachines 525 laptop. About 2 years old

The screen is gone very dark. I tried opening and closing the lid a good few times, no joy. If i shine it towards the light, I can see windows booting up, and the login screen, just barely.

I replaced the inverter after doing a quick google, but that hasn't fixed it.

What do people reckon, screen gone faulty?

Screen would cost me around 50-60 euro so not the end of the world. Just seeing if it could be anything else first?

Do you have a hot key to adjust the brightness level on your laptop ?

can you adjust the brightness levels by pressing Fn and + brightness...I know you might have tried this already but just in case lol

Your ccfl bulbs on the side have blown. you might try picking up a second hand screen on adverts maybe or even a broken laptop with a good screen.

A friend of mine does laptop repairs and fixed it, very happy and not even that expensive!
