Just bought a 2002 citreon c5, the speedometer needle seems to have dropped. It certainly isn't showing the correct speed. Its showing it as doing 30 when I'm probably close to 60!

    Is there an easy fix?

Could a mod remove the mistake in spelling in the title please and the word other?

the stepper motors are pretty common to fail in those.

if you buy another c5 instrument cluster you can just swap the stepper motor over from those into yours so you get to keep the correct mileage etc.

alternatively the stepper motor on the other gauges are the same, so if you wanted to not sped any money and if you felt you could live without a rev counter, for example, you could remove your gauges and swap over the speedo gauge and rev counter motors and have a working speedo and no rev counter.

not saying with 100% conviction that that is the problem, but it's likely.

Is it a big job to swap over the motors?

its tedious but not particularly hard, 30-45 mins job. all you need are two credit cards to pop the gauges out, then the glass just clips off as do the motors (and one philips screw i think), then just swap them over. make sure to mark where the needles were exactly though to make sure you put them back right.

if you google it there are a few guides online.

Sounds like an ideal way to pass a bank holiday Saturday afternoon!

I've got a similar problem on a 2006 c5. My needle won't go above 70km an hour. Is it the said motors at fault?
