What car/van is right for my business?

    Hi everyone,

I am looking for some opinions on what car/van you think would be right for me! I run a small business which is starting to get busier so I need more space soon. I currently have a yaris. I think a small van would be good for car tax purposes and for putting advertising on. However I would like to have the option of carrying passengers. So I was thinking of a used citreon berlingo multispace or renault kangoo car. I want a diesel so if I register for vat at some point I can claim it back, something economical and is an overall good vehicle in terms of repairs etc.

I am not a car person so all opinions greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I know people will laugh, but have you looked at a Skoda Roomster?

Not terribly easy on the eye, but LOADS of space and easily convertible back and forth for passengers.

Will a branded Kangoo Car / Berlingo Multispace / Skoda Roomster create the right impression for your business?

Thanks for the help guys!! Also looked at the fiat qubo. I understand that these types of car are probably not the best for advertising the business, I would be better with a proper van for that purpose. But I also want something that can carry more then the driver and passenger and i cannot afford to keep a car and a van. Also I do events where I might need to bring a few people with me so something with a few seats would suit that. I can see how my branding would work really well covering a small van but is that the most important thing??

It's hard to say without knowing much about your business. What will you be lugging around? Freezers or cupcakes?

Did you plan to wrap the car? Or have magnetic adverts on it?

Perhaps an estate that will allow the rear seats to fold flat when you don't need them?

Keep looking at donedeal and see what is value. My dad brought a huge Peugeot that was 4 years old in mint condition with 35,000 miles for €3.800 as the business was going under and they need to sell everything.

He has had any issues with it and its 06

Get a DCI fuel card for diesel. You get diesel at a cheaper rate

Its children's parties and events see the website!! www.fireflyparties.com. I bring tables, chairs, gazebo and lots of boxes of equipment. The seats folding is a must and I think a wrap or decals around the car/van. I have magnets on my car at the moment and want something better.

    Hi

I found the carzone.ie very useful when choosing a van for my business. Take the time to fill in the car options you want and you should get a range of suitable choices. I drive a Mercedes Vito Combi which has 6 seats and large cargo area which ticks all my boxes. A smaller version would be the VW Caddy. Otherwise I would choose a Japanese or Korean made vehicle for excellent reliability and value. Best of luck

You're not really supposed to use a company van as a car.... There are size restrictions... (an estate car can't be registered as a van and you can't stick back seats in a small van ) ...
You could get a crew cab, either pick up or van , but there has to be a certain amount of load space, so a large transit with back seats is ok , a kangoo isn't ...dont know what the story is with claiming Vat back on fuel on a car...

Buy a used Citroen Nemo van - small but spacious, excellent engine/fuel consumption and they look cheeky - good for party related businesses. Because it's a commercial, you can depreciate it/get the Vat back/claim the fuel or mileage and all the other benefits that a full fat commercial brings. On the other side, a car always looks a bit "amateurish" but you can claim mileage expenses which add up rapidly. Personally, I'd get a Nemo. :) And keep the Yaris for when you want a car.
