Hey! How many history essays do I need to study for each of my 3 topics to be sure that at least 1 question I've prepared will come up? Higher level, by the way.

I'm planning on doing 5/6 for each section, then taking a few bits and pieces from maybe 2/3 essays from each section, just to be safe and to give myself some wiggle room.
So, on average 5.5 essays for each section.

So for Sovereignty & Partition - Reasons for growth of Sinn Finn/Success in 1918
    -Easter Rising
    -Economic Policies of FF/CnaG
    -Anglo-Irish Relations of FF/CnaG
    -Anglo-Irish Treaty
    -DeValera as a leader S+W

    Northern Ireland

    Welfare State
    Sunningdale/Anglo-Irish Agreement/Downing St. Declaration
    University for Derry
    Apprentice Boys
    O'Neill as a leader/Brookeborough as a leader

    Dictatorship & Democracy

Reasons for the growth of fascism in Europe
Internal and external policies of Mussolini
    Nazi State '33-'39
Challenges facing Britain during the inter war period
    Hitler's foreign policy
    Mussolini/Hitler Church State Relations

    European Retreat From Empire

    Reasons for Katanga's Secession
Why did The Front National Become Popular

Would that suffice for all the topics? Any key questions I'm missing? Intentionally omitted Russia/France for D&D

I don't do D&D, but that looks like a fairly comprehensive list for the other topics. For Sovereignty & Partition I'd say the treaty negotiations are a dead cert, don't think they've been up since 2009(?) and they're a case study. Failing that, they always ask FF/CnaG so you're covered there.

For Northern Ireland, last years questions were all beauts, with all three case studies mentioned, so its hard to predict what will be on this year. Don't think you can go far wrong with your list unless they ask the worlds weirdest questions..

Hitler's foreign policy came up last year (doesn't really mean that much but yeah worth pointing out!)

Do you think I have enough there though?

    My list:
    Dictatorship + Democracy:
    > Church State H + Muss.
    > Propaganda
    > Home Front
    > Stalin society/economy
    > Either Hitler's rise to power or Mussolini's Internal/External policys (maybe both)

    Pursuit of Sovereignty:
    > Anglo-Irish Treaty
    > CnaG and FF policies (comparison)
    > Consolidating democracy
    > DeVelera
    > Either 1916 rising or War of Independence.

Movements for Political and Social Reform:
    > 1913 Strike and Lockout
    > HR movement
    > Land Reform
    > Cultural revival

If you know all them I'm sure you'll be fine, I didn't do your first topic though. You should probably consider doing Stalin though, Russia comes up every year.

Find propaganda and home front essays quite difficult myself. What do you discuss in your ones?

  • Registered Users Posts: 25 JOS2013

    I'm doing: Hitlers Germany
Hitlers Foreign Policy (for a few extra pointers)
    Mussolini
    Propaganda for both
    Church State relations for both
    Britain between the Wars

    War of independence
    Rise of Sinn Fein
    Treaty + Debates
    Cumann na nGaedheal
    De Valera in Power

    Welfare State
Terence o Neill and the Civil Rights Movement
The Troubles / Fall of Stormont
    Post Sunningdale

I love them both! I'm really confident with the Home Front one in particular.
Propaganda I basically wrote a paragraph on:
    1) Goebelles
    2) Speeches / Nuremberg Rallies
    3) Posters/Pamphlets
    4) Radio
    5) Film
    6) Literature

Home Front was stuff like Home Guard, Rationing, black market, role of women, evacuation etc.

if your doing propaganda you can throw in education and the youth movements

Ahhh! :( Everyone is doing inter-war years, but I have no essay done on it. It's come up so many times too. I'm sorta hoping they'll go crazy for a year and put up Home Front, it hasn't came up since like 2008 or 2006, can't remember.

I think both of those are in their somewhere!

What do you think the Land Reform question will be if it comes up? All I have an essay on is "Land Purchase 1870-1914 w/ reference to Conservative/Liberal involvement". If it came up as anything else I'd be lost...

as far as i know thats the only question they do ask. they may word it slightly differently but your essay will cover it. I have the exact same essay planned

Parnell's involvement with land reform came up in 2010, but I don't think they'll ask that again.

    Does anyone think something on
    1. The impact of ww2 on north/south ?
    2. Technology/military/I.T development in us?
    3. Michael Collins?
Will come up? Kinda screwed for history, only have 3 essays learnt so far and I kinda want a B in it :/

i wouldnt know where to begin with parnell. Id have to do 1913 strike and lockout which is also tipped to appear

  • Registered Users Posts: 90 ✭✭PhosphoricAcid

To be honest I think Collins by himself could come up, other key figures have come up by themselves in recent years(DeValera, Pearse, Marckevicz and Griffith namely) but I don't think Collins has.

If I had to give some predictions they'd be..
-Challenges facing Britain in the interwar period
    -The Lockout is guaranteed IMO
-Collins by himself. Probably his contribution to the republican movement or something along those lines.
-Secession of Katanga, reasons why they opted to secede
    -Rise of Sinn Fein 1918
    -Economic policies of CnaG/FF
    -Welfare State
