Clutch issues

    Hi All.
Have a fiat 82-94 and have some concerns about the clutch.
Everything works fine but in the idle position the clutch pedal can be lifted up 3 or 4 inches and it falls down again. Is this slack normal?

Another thing. In operation when you push down the clutch, change gear and then let the clutch up again it only seems to bite on the top inch or inch and a half of travel. Is this ok or does it mean its worn?

Whats involved if worn? or can it be adjusted?

    thanks
    Max

You need to adjust the clutch and it also sounds like the clutch cable could be getting worn.

Thanks.. Any idea how I could go about that.
    Is it a big job?

Any Fiat I have ever driven the clutch rides very high on them as standard. Not saying it isn't worn but I have noticed this in the past.

There are others on here with Fiats/TL Fords who might be able to say more. The lifting it above idle position could be a worn spring maybe on the pedal itself rather than anything in the clutch unit?

Fitter told me the pedal should be 5 and a half to 6 inches off the floor.normal enough to have free play above this. Get someone familiar with fiat to check the adjustment

spot on, when it goes higher than this you adjust it down, from memory (years since i did it) two 10mm wrenches under the cab at the gearbox, eventually you run out of thread and pedal gets too high then the clutch is nearly gone.

Thanks lads. I just measured mine and its almost seven inches. I guess that means I have to adjust. Is it a difficult job or should I worry about tackling it myself? I am reasnobly handy mechanically. Is there anything else I need to take care of?

To clarify. The clutch pedal is also almost 7 inches ( off the floor that is)

Maybe I dont have to adjust anything.
I just looked at the workshop manual for the 90 series and it says that for a version with a cab the clutch should be 170mm from the floor (6.7 inches) so if the 94 series is the same i'm ok unless anyone has better info.
