inflating racing bike tyres

    Can you get 120psi into tyres with a handpump, obviously without a dial this will be hard to judge but is it possible?

    Can't imagine you'd be able to. 100PSI maybe with alot of effort and a good hand pump.Why not just use a track pump like a normal person?

    completely new to this, im a runner, a friend gave me his racing bike so i could cross train as im unable to run but ok to cycle, which is besides the point

    whats a track pump?

    Something like this. You'd have no problem getting to 120 PSI with one of these.

    Very. A cheap-ish one'll set you back about €25 and should do the job.

    I have this http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=47804 and it takes little effort to get it up to 120 PSI. The gauge seems pretty accurate too.

    A track pump is indeed a must buy. Underinflated tyres is the no1 reason for punctures (well.. I 'd safely guess they are at least :) ). If you're planning to do a lot of miles maybe buying a co2 pump will come handy as well.

    maybe between 50ish mile per week im not sure if thats alot for cycling, id guess it isnt!!

    Its not a lot of cycling but that said if your not able to run at the moment I cant imagine you being able to push too hard with cycling either.

    I should know as I got injured last year running and was out pretty much for 6 months but was able to do a bit of cycling and it did help. Kept me sane if nothing else.

    That said I now do a bit of both so I break up the monotony of running on its own and to cut down on injuries.

    I can safely say I now rather cycling to running.

    Do some sportives (organised cycles, usually 100k plus, some shorter, some longer) if you can as theyre great craic.
