must be the sun, but we decided to go to dublin for the weekend with 4 kids, age 9, 7, 5, 3.

Any advice or recommendations for events, places to go, restaurants, things to do would be appreciated.

    thanks

Everyone with kids that I know has done it loved it

The Viking Splash tour is super. The only thing is that young kids cannot stay on board for the part when they go out onto the water. I think it may be due to the size of the life-jackets or something. Just worth bearing in mind.

When i was a kid i loved going to the "Dead Zoo" (Natural History Museum). In truth, it's never really worn off, i still love going there. :D

I would also suggest The Science Gallery, great fun for kids.

Imaginosity is the most over priced, over rated play centre in Dublin, possibly the country. Adults have to pay in too.

The Dublin Port River Fest is on this weekend with 5 tall ships and some small ships docking for the weekend. Judging by how popular the Tall Ships were last year, get in early for tours of the ships!

Bloom in the Park is on too and the Zoo is always good for a visit though will be jammed this weekend if it's any way sunny.

    cheers everyone,

went to imaginosity last year, the younger 2 loved it the older 2 were a bit meh about it. vice versa for the natural history museum.

vikingsplash tour looks great but very expensive - won't be doing that unless there's a discount code available...

had a look at the science gallery t'other day - seems to be for older kids?

the zoo is a must, as is tayto park (technically meath but we won't hold that against it..) and the riverfest looks like it'll be worth a visit.

    anything else on this weekend?

Your kids would be ok on the Viking Tour - it's only under 2s that can't do the water bit

Think you can use Tesco points to buy tickets - not sure how that works tough

Deffo would suggest Bloom. Even if you aren't into flowers are plants, there are lots of great areas for the kids to run around and have fun. The food village and craft fairs are great. The Zoo is close by if you want to take that in too.

Jesus - fair play to you!

Are you staying in the city center? The 3 year old might enjoy something simple like feeding the ducks in St Stephen's green. (Buy a cheap sliced pan on the way).

If you have a car you could try the Dublin mountains. (Hills!)

    Child friendly options include.

They are closer than you think. Perhaps a 35 minute drive will take you to a very popular spot known as "Three Rock Mountain" or even "Hell Fire Club".

Both are short walks to the top ... perhaps 30 mins each way.
In the case of "Three Rock Mountain" you can drive up beyond the main car park and this will reduce the climb.

Might be just a bit much for a three year old but may take push chairs.

Great views from the top etc

    Different Suggestion:
National Aquatic Centre - Pirate ships and water slides. (Mornings are quieter).

Also, the Phoenix Park is a massive public park very close to city centre ... the Zoo is there and the president lives there and lots more..

Viking splash is a definite for me. The kid in me still enjoys it every time I go. (I think I've been 5 or 6 times)

Phoenix park will be mobbed this weekend as Bloom is on. Just one to watch out for.

Here's a list of events on:

    http://www.dublin.ie/calendar-list.aspx

Edit: Just to add, it's difficult to suggest things to do with such young children and adults also, but maybe one parent and the older kids might be interested in going to the Croke Park muesem and then doing the sky walk (walking on the roof of Croke Park!! All very safe though, don't worry!)

Younger kids might enjoy the Dublin Wax Musem.

If your kids are into sport there's also the Aviva stadium tour.

Dublin has some of the nicest parks in the country, you could go to Merrion Square and have a picnic in the nice weather.

Take the kids around Grafton St and St Stephens Green shopping centre, stroll around town.

Go see the presidents home in the Phoenix park, go to the zoo, go to the market in the park too. Bloom festival on there too.

Get the DART out to Howth, feed the seals, get a good proper fish and chips, go for a walk around the trails, see the beautiful landscpe.

Get the luas to Dundrum town centre, lots of nice adult & kid freindly places to eat, toy shops, cinema, a nice place to see also.

Go see the tall suip along the quays.

Any of the nice beaches in this weather.

Go see some of the historical parts of the city, GPO, Trinity etc.

    Splash tours as mentioned

Some of the amusement places a bit out of town, Aqua centre, Tayto park
