It will be quite interesting to watch if the FirefoxOS will be good enough to make a dent in android/ios dominated market.

"Apple OEM contractor Foxconn is prepping several products based on Mozilla’s Firefox OS, says an industry report. The new products, one of which is rumored to be a tablet, are expected to be announced on June 3 in collaboration with Mozilla."

"Firefox OS phones built by ZTE and Alcatel are set to be released in Spain, Portugal, Poland, Brazil, and Venezuela in June. Subsequent Firefox OS rollouts are expected in 11 more countries by the end of 2013, according to Mozilla. LG and Huawei may be part of the late-2013 crop of handsets, while Sony is exploring a model it might ship in 2014."

I am doubtful that such a late entrant to the market can make a dent in the sales of the other guys..

That said if they do manage to get into the lower end market I think there is definitely space for an efficient mobile OS.

They seem to have gotten to the mark far quicker than Ubuntu, it's hard to know if there is space for several linux based mobile OS's..

It's really hard to tell.. a few years ago android wasn't even existing as a product. Today it dominates the market, but it's still controlled in some way by one company. FirefoxOS won't have that problem.

I just found an article from Sep 2010. http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-20015799-94.html#!

    Some funny bits:
"Nokia's Symbian will hang on to its No. 1 spot with 32.9 percent of the market in 2014. But it will lose some customers to Android, which will see its share climb from 16.3 percent this year to 24.6 percent."

"BlackBerry's share will stay about the same, though Apple's iOS is expected to lose some share, falling from 14.7% this year to 10.9% in 2014. " Blackberry had 18% then.

Now it's android, in 2016 in might be FirefoxOS

The first firefoxos tablet seems to be ready for developers:
    http://linuxgizmos.com/firefox-os-gains-foxconn-dev-tablet/

"Mozilla unveiled the first Firefox OS tablet, a Foxconn “InFocus F1″ developers model with a quad-core Allwinner A31 and a 10.1-inch 1280 x 800 IPS screen.
The world’s first tablet to run the open source Linux based Firefox OS was informally unveiled by Mozilla developer Asa Dotzler on his eponymous blog site."

A few days ago tested again firefoxos simulator in firefox and it's really good. [type about:app-manager in address bar in firefox 26 to start it]
