    Hi all,

Looking to go on a week holiday at the end June/beginning July. Its just the 2 of us (couple in our mid 20's) and we are looking for something that ideally has a nice bit of sightseeing and activities, as well as having nice bars/restaurants and a pool/beach etc for the sun holiday experience. Price is also a consideration, can't really go more than 400 each. Also don't want to go somewhere that would involve hiring a car to do anything. I don't like driving abroad.

We've been to Budapest and loved it, but missed the nightlife and the beach, and likewise have been to Lanzarote and were bored after 2 or 3 days. Can anyone recommend a happy medium? I have been looking at Valencia. Seems to be a very nice city on the coast of Spain. Anyone any experiences here?

Any recommendations at all would be really appreciated. Also if anyone knows of places to get a good deal would also be great. Has to be some better prices than what I'm seeing in the travel agents etc.

    Thanks!

barcelona is an excellent choice if you haven't been

malaga/marbella is a nice combo break, public transport in the area is excellent and there are numerous services linking malaga with marbella and then onto gibraltar (which btw is worth a visit to see the monkeys on the rock)

Sopot near (in) Gdansk. By the sea, big nightlife scene, beautiful place, cheap to get to and cheap to stay.

Your OP could describe myself and the OH down to a tee! Have been looking at places and at the 400 budget for a week the options are limited. The accom has gone up a lot in Sopot since last year from what I can tell, I was there and can vouch that it's a great place but I dunno if you'd bring it in under budget.

Marbella on 400 each will only make you feel poor.

Sicily has cheap flights going by the looks of it but the accom is high and I've no experience of how much stuff costs when you get there.

We plumped for Corralejo in Fuerteventura, been there before and while it's not the liveliest place it has the weather, a couple of clubs and lovely beaches. And more importantly it beats pretty much everywhere on price hands down. We booked yesterday, got 9 nights accom and flights for 350 each. To give you an idea flights to Crete were 389 each.

Alternatively have a look at Albufeira in Portugal. Plenty bars/clubs and the accom can usually be had for fairly good prices.

You'll never get the best deal in a travel agents in fairness. Skyscanner for flights and Trivago/Travel Republic for accom hasn't let me down yet. Trick a lot of the time with skyscanner is to pick your destination, then see how much it costs from L'pool/B'ham/Manc to there. There's often a huge difference and the connecting flight from Dub to England is often under €20, especially when the football season is off.

    Happy hunting!

Valencia's great. Ticks all the boxes without the hordes of tourists you get in Barcelona. Nice beach a short tram ride from the city, good bars, lovely restaurants and much cheaper than Marbella or Barcelona. There's loads of culture and some stunning architecture. You can do a lot of the city sights on foot but public transport is cheap and efficient.

Thanks all for the replies some great info there. Think we will stick with Valencia though. Killbill you sound like you've been there can you recommend any hotels/apartments? Seems to be a lot of them but very few with a pool which is an essential for me when I'm away :P

I've stayed here a couple of times. Very good hotel for the price. It has a pool although I never went near it.
