Hey folks, thinking of buying a proper camera( as opposed to digital one!). Am willing to spend up t0 500e, am a real novice at this so any advice would be appreciated! Saw a nice fugi film for 459 today. Cheers!

Got my gf the Nikon D3100 14.2MP DSLR back in August and she still loves it.
Its currently going in Argos for 410, including the 18-55mm lens. Add a bit for a SD card and a bag and you will still be around 500.
Not sure if anywhere else is doing it cheaper or a better deal right now. Or maybe a better camera for the same money.

Well first off proper (beginners) camera would be a DSLR.

So it is digital, unless U are looking for film camera?
Anyway, I am not a pro myself, but would highly recommend pentax.
I am happy owner of K-x with 18-55 and 75-300 lens.
You should also look for the other 2 biggest players - nikon and canon.
You will also have a greater choice of lenses.
Have a look here http://www.connscameras.ie/ for professional advice.
Hope it will help making the decision.
    Good luck.
