My first time posting in this forum and was wondering if you guys can help.

I am looking for some information about working in a rolling stock maintenance environment, specifically the work environment/equipment in Alstom.

I have found a small bit of info on the Wiki pages for Alstom and the LUAS trams. Just hoping you guys can provide me with some more details that is not covered in those Wikipedia pages. Thanks.

Just general operation and maintenance procedures.

As I understand it, Alstom provided the trams, signalling system and some other control equipment and they are responsible for some maintenance. The contract was initially with the RPA, but I understand that Veolia may be taking it over / may have already done so. I don't know if they do the main electrical systems

I imagine most of work is of an electrical / electronic and/or mechanical nature and would vary from maintaining track-side equipment to routine maintenance and part-disassembly / re-assembly of trams - primarily the moving parts. While some parts will be maintained in Dublin, others would be returned to depot/factory for repair / maintenance / refurbishment. Modern trams are very modular. Trams are maintained at both Red Cow and Sandyford, although I get the impression that Red Cow has a more sophisticated operation.

Alstom also supplied Irish Rail with the 2700/2750 class and the less than successful 8200 class. They seem to also own De Dietrich Ferroviaire, who built the Enterprise sets.

Thanks for the detailed response Victor. Having been invited for an interview with Alstom, this is the type of information I need.

Looks like the Alstom contract expires in 2019.
