Revenue/Tax Queries

    Hi,

I have recently started a career in the accounting industry, a complete novice at the moment. I have a few questions regards revenue and tax.

I have family and friends asking my advice on certain tax issues. I would know a bit, but some issues stifle me. However, when i tell em what to do, they talk to revenue, somewhat forget what they said, report back to me and then im more confused. My question; Is it possible to talk to Revenue on behalf of another person, given their permission? I know revenue wont talk to you if ur not the PPS person but is there a way they would?

A tax issue right now that is confusing me.

My Girlfriend worked in the clothes shop 'only'. It was then sold and new owners took over. So in the first month the new owners paid her she got emergency taxed. She then left as she got a new fulltime job. She went to 'links' and in the first month got emergency taxed of them aswell. But not in the second month. What can be done here to get the tax back?

Any help/Advice would be greatly appreciated.

    DamienOB

If she is still working it should balance out for the year, as her unused credits from previous months would be allocated to future months.

    Try the following

    "I don't know"

"That is outside the scope of my knowledge at the moment"

"I am not insured to give advice"

You should NOT be representing yourself as qualified or presenting knowledge if you do not have it. These people are the first people to come back and blame you and bite your hand off. They will not thank you.

Revenue will NOT accept representations from people who are not properly authorised. There is no way to get around it because it protects you from making a balls of someone's return when you are not qualified, insured or knowledgable.

People sell this knowledge for a reason. It has a value. Don't demean your profession by giving half arsed tax advice.

Tax advice is a specialised qualification. If you are a novice - just say no.

Obviously im taking on basic stuff, health expenses etc. I am not charging anybody for what i do as im doing it to gain knowledge, for family people ONLY.

While you may think your opinion is just brilliant, if everyone followed it, nobody would learn anything. Which is my prime goal. To learn. I clearly point out stuff im unsure of at the start, and try learn from there.

People also sell it cos other people are too lazy to do it
