Hi guys I'm looking to reinstall my OS (windows 7) as my computer has been acting quite strange lately. My main question is with regard to the hard drives I have inside. I have a 128gb ssd for the OS and a 1tb hdd for everything else. Now when I built the PC for the first time I managed to have the program files folder on the hdd instead of the ssd so that I could install programs and games to the hdd. I can't for the life of me remember how to do this, also is there a way to set this up during the install opposed to doing it later?

Secondly I have quite a lot of content currently on the hdd which I would like to keep. Will I need to transfer this stuff to a seperate drive during the reinstall or can I protect that from being touched during the reinstall?

You can just select to install apps on your second(HDD) when your setting up and installing the apps.

Just create a folder "programs" on the HDD and point applications to this drive when you are installing them.

You can leave your data on the Hdd if your only formatting and wiping the SSD to reinstall the OS.

But i would recommend having a backup of your data.

I would also delete any folder on the hdd holding apps from the previous install.

To answer your first question, there's no way to do that during the install. When installing programs, just select your HDD as the destination drive. You can also change the target path for the Downloads, Documents, Videos folder to your HDD but you'll need to do that after the reinstall.

RE your second question - your data should be safe, but as the last person said, I'd suggest you take a backup before doing the reinstall. Its unlikely that anything will go wrong but you never know. Just make sure that, when doing the reinstall, you select the SSD as the target for the operating system.
