    Hi.
So here is the question, can you choose to miss part of a flight and just show up at the layover airport? In Washington for summer flying back from washington through JFK but may be in New York anyway by then, so can I just check in at JFK?
    Thanks in advance!

you should check with your airline.
I know Lufthansa for one are very fussy on you having completed previous legs so definitely read your terms and conditions. I'll be in there pretty clearly defined I bet.

Theres due to be EU legislation to regulate this at some stage in favour of the consumer but not before next summer, and it'll only affect european airlines anyhow (and tickets issued through them)

    Definitely contact the airline OP.

If you simply turn up at JFK you more than likely won't get on as your booking originated in Washington and if you don't check in for the flight there, you will be deemed as a no show for the entire journey.

There was another thread here recently that touched on this.

Agreed. Check with your airline. It is not uncommon for airlines to cancel all of the flights on your itinerary, if you don't show up for the first one. American airlines do it to protect their revenue streams and pricing structures.

There is no airline that would allow this on a non flexible/premium ticket. It will be in your booking t&c. If you don't show up in Washington the entire ticket will be cancelled.

I imagine the Yanks might get a bee in their bonnet about security too if you did this. I can't imagine it would be allowed. If possible, it would be better to cancel the first leg and keep the second leg open - either way you loose the cost of the first leg, so it makes no difference to you but at least if they agree to it, it will all be above board and you won't turn up at JFK only to be told your seat has been sold on.

    No,

The connection is treated as all one itinerary, if you waste the first part the rest of it is automatically cancelled.

You can change it, but there is a cost for this.
