Servicing bottom bracket

Starting to get increasing noise from my road bike BB in recent weeks, so I reckon its due either a service or replacement. It's an FSA ISIS Drive BB marked as BC1 37" 24T on the outside connected to a triple crank set. Reading the ISIS drive spec, I reckon that any 68x118 ISIS BB should be a viable replacements, e.g. the FSA Platinum ISIS 68x118 or Truvativ Giga Pipe Team SL 68/73 x 118mm ISIS BB . I'm wondering is it worth trying to service the existing BB, or better to replace the whole thing? I bought the bike 2nd hand a couple of years ago, an would guess the BB is the original.

Should a BB be totally silent? My one is brand new and makes a bit of noise under load.

Yeah mine is making some noise lately under load. I think theyre maybe grit in it. Similar thing happened last year. Brought it for service because it was free. Frankly id like to sort it myself now so think il get some tools for it.

Havent serviced a bike since my old mountain bike prob 15 years ago.

Aldi or lidl had a servicing kit recently if im not mistaken ?

I've a brand new Boardman Road Comp and Halfords said they have the BB issue sorted, but 100km's in to my new bike and the BB sounds rough enough. Thought it should be totally smooth.

The team has the BB30 has it? I don't think mine has BB30.

It needs to go back soon for the tune up (cable adjustment, etc) so I'll get them to look at the BB too.

It does have BB30. Are these pressed ? that makes it difficult for me to service. Either way it sounds like the grease is either gone or bearings are worn under strain. I have only put about 200 km on it since last service so bit miffed tbh.

    its an unnice creak sound.

Hoping it will be an easy fix. Won't chance it myself, but had found this about the BB30: http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/article/workshop-how-to-service-bb30-press-fit-bottom-brackets-29544/

Yes was just reading that article myself. Looks straight forward. and achievable without special press although not ideal.

Might pop in to Halfords ive 1 free service remaining. And il stick with my own afterwards as im very hands on.

Must be at least 15,000km on my bb, maybe time for a refresh.

A new BB is less than €30 AFAIK, I'd just swap it out. Lazy solution but there you are.

With 15,000km it, it owes you nothing.
