Where to go post-wedding in Ireland

    Hi,

Tying the knot with my fiance on 7 June in Tipperary. She's from the Philippines and has never been to Ireland before (we met and live in Dubai).

Basically, I'd like to do a romantic tour of Ireland on Saturday 8, Sunday 9, Monday 10, Tuesday 11, arriving back in Tipperary on Tuesday night, and heading to Dublin on Wednesday night so that we can tour Dublin on Thursday 13 before returning to Dubai on Friday 14.

We will visit Cork for a day or so on 5/6 June.

I was thinking of heading from Tipp to Portmagee in Kerry on the 8 and staying there, doing the Skelligs on 9. Then I'd like to head to Connamara (I've never been there myself!). I was also thinking of incorporating Newgrange and Glendalough. Lots of driving but we will enjoy the journey as much as the destination, and I personally love driving on roadtrips.

I was wondering whether anyone could recommend a few hidden gems to stop off at along the way, or a few nice guesthouses. Mediaval / traditional / nice landscapes / good food would be the general aim.

    Thanks,

Has she gotten the Tipp tour before because, as a blow in to the place, I think it's a gorgeous county.
Cahir castle, the Vee, Swiss cottage, Careys Castle, Glen of Aherlow etc....

There's a little guesthouse called hanoras cottage near enough to the area (though its actually in co Waterford). Supposed to be lovely, with v nice food too!

if you're going to Newgrange and want to stay in the area, Scholars Townhouse in Drogheda is really lovely. Great food and I've heard it's a touch of luxury to stay in ...can head into Dublin early on Thursday morning (post 9am to miss the traffic) and you'll have plenty of time to do the sights in the city...

Yep, I'm from Cahir and I'll be doing all of these things with her before the wedding day itself. We're flying tomorrow and we can't wait :-)

    Thanks for the tip.
Does anyone have any suggestions regarding how to tour the Aran Islands?

    +1 Glen of Aherlow

Im sure plenty of tours available in Galway city for that. Cliffs of Moher is also an option of a day trip

For the Aran Islands, you can get a ferry from either Doolin, Co Clare or Ros a' Mhíl, Co Galway. There's a few different ferry companies, so you can google the times. There's buses that run from the tourist office in Galway to the Ros a' Mhíl port too.

If going to Inis Mór, you'll have no problem getting around as you'll be overrun with minibus and horse and cart options as soon as you get off the boat. Costs about a tenner for a tour of a few hours that takes in the main sights (that's for the minibus option, prob costs more for horse and cart). You can also rent bikes.

Similar options available on Inis Meáin and Inis Oírr but on a smaller and less hectic scale. You can also just walk around Inis Oírr - it's tiny but gorgeous.

You should try The wild Atlantic way in North Mayo . It will be breathtaking experience.

Some Great B & B & Hotel along the way.

Not a whole pile to see on Inis Meain though.

Hey, congratulations on your impending wedding! Just a little bit of advice for you. I know when we got married we took a small minimoon in Ireland for a few days and then went on an amazing extended honeymoon abroad a couple of months later. What I would say is that nothing prepares you for how tired you will be after the wedding! We were both wrecked and were so grateful we'd booked into a spa hotel on the West Coast for a week to chill out/eat lots/have lots of hummenahummena! :D What I'm saying is, don't be too ambitious with long trips every day as you will both be quite tired so don't try to fit in too much! Peronsally I think West Cork/Kerry are lovely spots and you could enjoy some amazing trips/restaurants without tortuous journeys and being on the move all the time. Just my two cents!

Was going to suggest Valentia, but you are planning to go there already I presume if you are going to Port Magee. Going to see the tetrapod tracks is a must if it is a nice day and also to go get some of the ice cream made on the Island.
Cliffs of Moher is something Iconic to go and see to. Just make sure you get someone to take a photo of you both while you are there.

    few suggestions here also

Best of luck for tomorrow, I still don't know how you managed to bring the sun home with you. Just don't take it away with you when you leave.

Whoever mentioned Hanoras Cottage is right, Its lovely and the Nire Valley were its situated is lovely (the bits off the 'main'road are even more spectacular.
Your right to choose Port Magee and Valentia..they are stunning..the food in the Moorings/Bridge Bar is great.
You should also consider west cork..if you like Port Magee the Baltimore and Cape Clear will def be your style too !!
