Hi, I looking for a format for presenting my family tree. I have looked at different sites but I am not sure how they might work out. I have a lot of the research done already. I know it will always be a work in progress. This is a large family tree going back five generations.
    Can anyone offer suggestions?

Different people will have different views on this. I use MyHeritage and I'm happy with it.

It comes down to personal preference. You'll just have to try something and see how you like it. I use Ancestry.com. They have a pay service to search their databases, but it's free just to use it for your tree.

Thanks for information. It's good to get other people's feedback on their research.

I have used Brother's Keeper (now ver 6) since the DOS days. over 18,000 people in the database.

However, I wasn't sure the Op was thinking of a genealogy program or just for tips on a design form on paper.

I have a (distant) cousin who doesn't keep his info on computer but has it all on paper.

Some people use a spreadsheet like MS excel which may be useful when starting (I did that as well), having each individuals details on a row. Later, however, they may have to convert it for a genealogy program when things get bigger.

I attempted paper, but there's too much of a history of remarriages, same family marriages (e.g. two brothers marrying two sisters) and revisions as I got better data that it became an unreadable untrackable mess. So I currently use Ancestry, but you can generally move the basic data between programmes using GEDCOM exports/imports anyway.

OP says he/she is looking for a 'format for presenting my family tree'.
My first thought was not for research but aimed at presenting the tree as 'view only'. e.g. on CD to send to interested people or for WEB.
With that in mind I like to use 'oxy-gen'. - www.oxy-gen-soft.net

    I use family historian.

It is down to personal choice and to be honest most of the main packages have similar features including the ability to send you tree or parts of your tree to others in pdf or bmp or jpg format.

One bit of advice that I would give is to go with software that you pay for. Free trial versions can be limiting in terms of functionality and the number of people you can have in the tree. Also the constant pop up reminders will drive you insane.
The cost of full versions of any family tree program is relatively inexpensive considering how many hours of fun and frustration lie ahead.

Is there a limit to number of people this can accommodate? Many thanks

    Snobbles,

    Please don't resurrect old threads.
I think My Heritage is unlimited if you pay for it.

    Thanks,
