Hi, I'm sure this has happened one of you lot! if you would share the knowledge.

So my engine has gone kaput. But i have it taxed for the year. Itll be off the road for at least 2months, any way of pausing the tax or getting a refund?

Only if the car has been scrapped/stolen or has been exported permanently out of the state.

I've a question on this. I crashed my car last week and it's a definite write-off. I gave it to a mechanic who is going to see if he can get any usable parts from it and eventually scrap it.

I have about 9 months of the tax left to run on it. I'm going sending in the RF120 form but I'm not sure whether to tick the Vehicle Not Used box or the Vehicle Scrapped / Destroyed box. If I tick Scrapped/Destroyed I believe I'll need a Certificate of Destruction from a waste management centre which I don't have.

So can I tick the Vehicle Not Used box or is this for some other circumstances?

you will have to get and end of life cert from an authorised treatment facility before you can claim back the tax. The best thing to do is get your mechanic to strip the bits he wants off it and drop the rest to your local atf and get your cert.
