Kilkenny hurler John Tennyson has retired from inter-county hurling.

    From the Indo:
Tennyson lost his place last year and had been struggling with a niggly hamstring injury this year. “It’s disappointing but that’s the way it goes, I didn’t feel that I was in competition for a starting place,” he told GAA.ie. “My time is up and it’s a good time to go, I’m hoping that I can free up more time to give to the club. I spoke with the management at the start of this week and told them, they wished me the best and I wished them the best.”
I was always a big fan of Tennyson, big and strong, but had buckets of skill as well. He was unbelievable in the 2006 championship. Similar to Henry Shefflin, Tennyson also suffered a serious cruciate knee ligament injury (the second of his career) before the 2010 AI final. But Tennyson somehow managed to play the entire final though

I think he is still needed on the KK panel, but if he didn't think he could win back a starting place, then I can understand why he is retiring.

Thanks for all the effort John!

Gave one of the best individual displays I have ever seen in the 2004 Club Intermediate All Ireland Final and was desperately unlucky to come out on the loosing side that day. Probably a victim of he's own versatility -wish him all the best in retirement.

Top class player, unfortunately his career was ruined by injury.
