Thailand Trip, Getting Shots?

So I want to go to Thailand this August but I am wondering how do I go about getting the shots required?

Does it have to be booked way in advanced?

Once you purchase your flights to thailand, what else needs to be done legal wise?

I'm just looking for some advice on how to get there. I will look at other posts in terms of where to go...etc, just need to get started with the organisation of the trip so any tips or advice on how to organise it, would be appreciated much!

    Thanks ;)

search the forums, lots of threads on this already.

Check out tmb.ie, they've a good list of required vaccines by country. They also have clinics around the country.
Some you need to start getting 6 months before travel for full immunity, but should be ok as there's a certain percentage coverage after the first couple of rounds of vaccines.

There is fast vaccine schedules available too, but some vaccines such as Hepatitis B are given over a six month time-frame. Best bet is to speak to your GP as it might be cheaper than going to the TMB who are more expensive than my GP anyway.

I'm off to Thailand myself in two weeks time for my third trip there, any questions feel free to ask!

I found my GP to be more expensive and another doctors' surgery, which advertised travel vaccines was also more expensive. Best way to find out is to call, they can usually give you price of the most common vaccines you'd need.
The TBM price list is online, if you're with VHI you can get 15% discount if you book appointment through VHI website.

Yes, Hep B was the one I was thinking of in terms of the 6 month period but couldn't remember which it was. Not everyone gets that so it may not be an issue for you. Forgot about the accelerated schedule. Looks like it can be completed in 1 month by combining it with Hep A.

Anyway, make a list of vaccines you decide to get and get the prices off a couple of places. Go to the cheapest/best and consult on which you need to get and any extra ones you might want or need. The recommended vaccines depend on your itinerary.

Shots can be taken 6 weeks in advance. there are usually no issues with this.
If you plan on going to the main tourist areas (Phuket) some people will tell you not to get any travel vacs, but to be safe to be safe get them anyway. I did. If you plan on going off-road (ie Jungle) then you definitely need them and possibly one or two extra as well.

For flights, check out Skyscanner which will show you cheap flights. Expect around the €700 mark return.

Two routes that are cheap to get you there are
Dublin - Amsterdam - Bangkok (Aer Lingus - China Airlines) (whole flight can be booked through China Airlines direct)

Dublin - Dubai - Bangkok (with either Emirates or Ethiad out of Dublin.)

    Enjoy the trip !! :)
