ok guys so im going to insulate my garage attic soon but not sure which would be best..the joists are about 180mm and im going to put down 3/4 inch wbp plywood in the attic.i cant afford the dense moy metac stuff so im thinking off 150mm earthwool or 200mm..would it be better putting in the 150 with a small airgap or slighty compressing the 200mm by about 20mm..everywhere i look all the good deals and prices are for 150 or 200 ,cant see much 180mm around except the moy metac stuff which is alot dearer, any suggestions,i will be using the garage as a gym come workshop so looking for a compromise with insulation.also im going to put up 50mm warm boards ,would people suggest batten out or just straight onto the cavity blocks?thanks

would it be better putting in the 150 with a small airgap or slighty compressing the 200mm by about 20mm

Your talking about fibreglass, mineral wool? Well if the earthwool has similar properties to the ones i mentioned they lose some of their insulating properties when compressed, compressing them makes their thermal conductivity higher. So by compressing the 200mm by 20mm you may be reducing the overall performance of the insulation reducing its u-value properties to maybe that of 150mm! So i'd go for the 150 and leave the air gap.
going to put up 50mm warm boards ,would people suggest batten out or just straight onto the cavity blocks?

Warm boards are those plaster slabs with the insulation attached? Its nice to have a battened area with 38mm battens for a service cavity so you dont need to chase the insulation, you can get rigid insulation, press right up to the wall and batten a service cavity on top of this.. but with the insulated plaster slabs you don't batten unless the wall has an uneven surface to fix to.

thanks for that, just wondering is it good practice to put the insulated plasterboards(warmboards) onto battens in case of moisture dampness or is this not an issue with insulated warmboards, ive heard alot different opinions on battening out and not regarding mould dampness,i can of course understand battening out for services etc .alot people seem divided over this i think..me included..
