What am I entitled to?

Hey guys, I've been working for a large Irish company for nearly a decade now and a couple of weeks ago I booked off two days at the weekend(my job involves weekend work) for a family function that I have to attend. Alls well and good until today when I check the roster for next weeks hours and while I have both days off that I requested, I have only been rostered for one day, a 7 hour shift. However in my contract it says i have to be given a minimum of 15 hours per week. Does anyone know if they are allowed to do this? I was told today by a colleague who is in the union(I am not) that I should be entitled to my 15 hours even though I booked two days off as the union informed them of this. Could anyone give me any clarification?

Can only think that your holiday pay is supposed to make up for not getting 15 hours but I don't know the exact answer. Have you spoken to your manager?

this would appear normal to me. Most jobs i have been in they have considered a days holidays to be part of the hours you have work. So say you normally do 3 7 hours shifts. The week in question your are working one shift and taking holidays for the other 2 so still getting paid for 21 hours where an issue would arise is if the total hours for that week in question come to under the 15 when you put it all together

The key here appears to be whether or not you expect to receive pay for your two days off.

So i should be entitled to be fully paid for my 15 hours? Or just the 7 I have been allocated?

No I dont expect to receive pay for them, its just that one of the people in the union said that I am entitled to my 15 hours. Id gladly work other days to make it up, but as i said notoriously petty

id assume u should be getting paid for 15 hours but that it will be broken up between hours worked and holiday pay unless you have opted to take the days off with out pay then No you will only be paid for hours worked

When I worked part time I was entitled to holiday pay when I took time off. It is calculated as 8% of all the hours you work during the leave year. See the following link:

    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employment/employment_rights_and_conditions/leave_and_holidays/annual_leave_public_holidays.html

Speak to HR, find out if you'll be getting holiday pay, and if not ask why your hours have been cut.
