It's getting far more than a limited release as in it's playing outside Dublin. It's on in the IMC cinema in Galway from tomorrow onward and I can't wait to see it.

I hope one of the Cork's cinemas (not Mahon Point) show it, looking forward to it too, Casey is a very good actor, better than Ben and underrated imo

I don't see how an actor who is repeatedly called one of the best working today and with the talent to be one of the all time greats could ever be considered underrated.

Really looking forward to this one... any comparison to Badlands is good enough for me.

I guess it all depends on how you interpret "underrated" and to me Casey and his co-star Ben Foster are

I think that when actors are constantly receiving critical raves for their performances and being touted as the best of their generation it's hard to interpret that as being underrated.

It's a beautifully shot, oftentimes poetic film, but I'm not so sure the loving presentation and delivery is quite befitting the story being told. Underneath its gloriously moody cinematography and melancholic, pensive tone it's as straightforward a tale as they come, surprisingly unambitious in what it attempts to do. From the exaggerated rural Americana to the core story of a man returning to a fundamentally changed home, it just sort of goes through the motions. Even the standard chronology is disappointing after a prologue that teases more dynamic, ambitious editing and structure (this is the editor of Upstream Colour, after all). Still, as disappointing as all that is, by avoiding the temptation to use cheap voiceover or other lazy articulation tools, it does at least add a bit of weight to proceedings, the cast reliably using silences and little gestures to illustrate their frame of mind wherever possible. It's a relatively impressive stylistic debut, although Lowery needs a more robust script to graduate from one-to-watch to up-and-coming.

I remain deeply smitten with Rooney Mara. The things I'd do to that woman, like write her a really strong character, cast her in the film and then totally respect her own interpretation of the script. Phwoar.

    Saw this tonight.

I started off feeling, this better get, not faster, but at least deeper quite quickly and then it did. Both.

I bought into it after about 20 mins. But was still holding back some of my cash if you know what I mean?

Then the latter 30 mins really came through for me. But then the last 5 let me down somewhat.

That said, if anyone's reading this trying to decide whether to see it or not. Go for it. There are lots of good points. The acting, the music, and the lighting in particular.

And one last point. While I like Caseys presence and acting, sometimes his vocal projection leaves it difficult for viewers to hear him properly.

    Either way. Go see.
