Would anyone be able to suggest where to get dog guard to cordon off half the boot for a dog to travel in while leaving the other half of the boot free?

A friend recently got a Belgian German shepherd cross pup, and a Hyundai i30 Crosswagon.

They are presently using a medium dog cage but it takes up a large amound of space, restricts storage of other things. Also means everything in the boot is on display as the boot cover cannot be pulled over when cage is insitu.

I was looking into a similar setup last year for my estate but failed to find something cost effective. It's something like this that they're looking for? There are a few providers in the UK of the dividers (google dog guard dividers) but they are very expensive. I eventually went with the custom made crate option but I have lost pretty much my entire boot space. I have a stacked drawer system beside it for gear. Luckily I've no children etc, so when I go away, I can put down the back seats.

If they really want to go ahead with a divider system and money is an issue, then maybe try approaching a metalwork teacher friend (!) who could design something for them that will attached to the normal rear guard.

Edit: Here's another supplier, example of one for a focus estate. http://www.travall.co.uk
You can also get them with a tailgate guard that stops the dog from jumping out or allows you to leave the boot open for air.

I know somebody who just uses 2 of these ones - http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/dogs/dog_cages_carriers/car_safety_grids/333919
One horizontally across the back seats and one vertically to divide the boot if that makes sense
