Creaking Cranks

Apologies for the cheesy title, as the title suggest my carbon racing bike as developed this problem in the last number of weeks. Cant think of anything that might be contributing to it other that I changed to my summer wheels about a month ago. The creaking "noise" only occurs when I am standing on the pedals either for climbing or accelerating, I will certainly drop it down to LBS but was just looking for any opinions as to what it might be.....

Try sticking the other set of wheels back on it for a spin or two, and then you'll know if it's the wheels or not.

It might be something as simple as greasing the points where the skewer meets the dropout... I had the same issue and was almost on my way to LBS when it was suggested to me to try it and it worked.... Worth a shot..!

my carbon bike had identical issue and it drove me nuts. Happened only on right crank when I put a lot of pressure on it and turned out to be the bottom bracket BB30 bearings which were replaced with new ones.

    Pedals a bit loose?

Before dropping it into the shop...

    Grease/Tighten wheel quick release
    Tighten pedals
    Tighten crank bolts
    Tighten chainring bolts

    They're the usual offenders.

Interesting...I only replaced the pedals earlier this year as the bearings were worn in the old ones, would have thought that I had tightened them properly but will check this out later.

Did you grease the pedals before thightening them? if not, getting them off could be fun!

Pedals have to be tight....very tight or they creak just as u describe(when climbing, sprinting etc.)

Spent weeks trying to discover where the creaking noise in my cranks was coming from. Changed the cleats on my shoes and the noise diasppeared...
