Secure Battery lights

    Hi all.

Has anyone come across battery bike lights which are secured to the bike and not capable of being clicked on and off. You would have to remove them with a tool to replace batteries. I am using Ree lights at the moment for one of the kids but am looking for a battery alternative for another bike which wouldnt really suit the Ree lights. Its mainly for college so obviously security is the main concern..

 If you were concerned with security wouldn't you want lights which can be removed to prevent theft?

    Yes..

You would remove them, I would remove them but past experience has shown me that kids will forget to remove them or else remove them and then lose them...

Ah yes - I didn't think of that.

They do exist. Here's a rear one.

I coudn't find a front battery light with a quick look though.

You should always get a dynamo and fixed front and rear lights. This means not only do they not need to remember to take them off, they don't need to remember to change the batteries either!

I've got a set of these which are great for a backup/secondary light. They're powered by a magnet on your spokes and are pretty much indestructible.

I've also got a rear light similar to what HiveMind20 recommended and a removable front LED light.

I've had this set up for a few years and I'm pretty happy with it. I'm comfortable enough taking the bike out even if I forget the front light or if one of the batteries is on the wane, though I try not to make a habit of it.

I use the reelights too but I find the wheel mounted ones a bit fiddly and I reckon kids would get these out of adjustment after a bit. OTOH, the SL500/600/700 sets are a permanent mount and more likely to get left intact.
