Rear Child Seat- Road or Mountain bike?

Hi there, I have just bought a 2nd hand Rear Child Seat for my 5-year-old & I was just wondering which of my two bikes I would be best to fit it to?
    • 2013 Boardman Race Bike: my road bike, fairly light with Carbon forks. Certainly my preferred bike to ride.
    • 2005 Kona Hahanna: my mountain bike, a lot sturdier with front shocks. In need of a good service.
So I would prefer to use my Boardman, but I would worry that I might be a bit unbalanced/unsteady & that the Kona would be the safer option. What would you recommend?

I was enquiring about the same thing in my LBS. They said the seat would be fine on a road bike, however, mine is for a 3 year old.

Go for the mountain bike. Seat + kid is not only quite a lot of weight much higher than your point of gravity, it is also unbalanced (think about the seat suspension + the child moving)

Also, road bikes are not really designed to carry up to 25kg attached to their seatposts.
