Hyundai Accent - lack of power

    Hello,
unfortunate my Accent is slowly dying.
Starting from the beginning the car was getting slower and slower, i would need 2nd to go up Greystones hill, my mechanic did something with some air pressure thing and it got the horses under the hood again. To be honest it was even better but it didnt last long. Maybe a month or two.
The story started to repeat itself. Lack of power, 1litre of oil gone in two months. After last visit in garage I got info that ill need to do the rings.
All I hear is that i need to do them, cause it is quite expensive im looking for a second opinion. Can there be another reason for the engine problem?
Any good mechanic around Greystones worth going to? Except the Hills?
    Cheers

The big problem behind that you do not have a good mechanic and you have to search a reputed car care shop to inspect you vehicle and they will guide you well.

Lets say that the mechanic which I usuall use is quite good, the problem for me is that all the time now the only thing he say are rings, rings , rings. 500€+ for the job. That's why im looking for what else could be a reason.

What kind of miles on the clock and have you got the NCT/Diagnostic results? Low and High Idle can point you in the right direction.
