I want to switch to a compact groupset, to this end, i've purchased a ultegra compact crankset, is my current rear derailleur ok or do i need to purchase a medium or long cage rear derailleur? How do I know whether i have a long/short or medium rear derailleur. Thanks for the help in advance.

Are you putting on wider ratio cassette too?

Put on a new chain, measured for new compact rings.

You changing from a triple? Will be a long cage rd in that case. I use a tiagra compact on the front and a tiagra long rd without any issues

If you're not touching the rear cassette you'll be fine.
