There would be a lot of noise about this lad if he was a few weights heavier. I wonder why one of the American networks hasn't taking a chance on him.

The major networks (HBO and Showtime) don't think they can sell flyweights, but they occasionally show up on other channels alright. Surely he has to be at least worthy of some undercard slots though. He is without question one of the top ten fighters in the world, and after today's performance there will be arguments for having him closer to top 5.

An example where the simple believe in something actually makes it so. They can't of course sell Flyweights (but mainly because they don't try). There hasn't been a Ring magazine fight of the year above Welterweight for 18 years, when Holyfield stopped Tyson the first time. There has been winners from Light-Flyweight, Bantamweight and Super-Bantamweight (4 from this weightclass !) though. Jorge Arce, Vic Darchinyan, Nonito Donaire and Fernando Montiel are all examples of fighters who become very popular and sold well at Flyweight, before eventually moving up and becoming some of the stars of the sport.
Manny Pacquiao of course started out as Flyweight World title holder before jumping straight up to Super-Bantamweight and beginning to establish himself in the US.

The real reason imo that the Americans ignore the lower weight classes is the same reason they had been ignoring Heavyweight until recently. They've **** all decent fighters at the weight and they're not concerned with promoting a division comprised totally of foreigners. If you found a good quality American Flyweight promoted by Al Haymon, he'd be the greatest thing since Sugar Ray Leonard !
The only reason they're starting to buy in on the likes of Wilder and getting half interested in Heavyweight is due to Wlad's increasing age and the fact they knows he's going to have to go away soon.
I remember Rayonta Whitfield was quietly starting to build up a bit of a talk and following from American boxing followers (tv stations were starting to take notice too), Omar Narvaez put that notion to bed quick enough !
Although to give Whitfield his credit he wasn't a bad fighter at all.

I caught the end of this Gonzalez fight btw, need to get my hands on the full thing.Tremendous heart shown from Yaegashi, really felt for him tbh considering the monumental effort he gave. Gonzalez really is a top, top fighter though, some record.
