Hi guys as the title says just wondering if somebody could let me know the cost of running my 17.6watt nas 24/7 365
    Would this be about right?

    17.6w x 24h = 422.4w/day
    422.4 x 7d = 2956.8w/week
    2956.8 x 52w = 153753.6w/year
    153753.6 / 12 = 12812.8w/per calendar month

    Assuming each kw costs E0.14.

    E0.06/day
    E0.41/week
    E21.53/year
    E1.79/per calendar month.

Would this be right? just want to show the missus so she can stop giving out about the ESB bill ha ;)

sounds about right, assuming that 17.6W is the steady output. My PC has a 750W PSU that doesn't mean its cranking that out 24/7 though, not nearly.

Make sure that includes the drives and isnt just the controller.

Wouldnt be much more, but percentage wise it could be(2x 6-10W).

An electric ireland KW at the moment is 19.28cent inc vat.

Take into consideration too that your nas won't always be running... the drives will almost certainly spin down when not in use.

I recently tested our nas with a plug in watt meter (they are a great bit of kit!) and the nas is rated to run at about the same as yours - 17watts, but over the course of a day or so, it showed a high of 25watts and a low of 5watts (this was when in hard drive spun down after it's set 15min of inactivity on the network.)

Might be best to buy a watt meter... they are about a tenner online and leave the nas plugged into it over a week or month to see what sort of wattage it consumes over that time.

    hope that helps.

If you think the unit cost is still €0.14, it's no surprise your missus is giving out. :D

All I will say is I won this argument with my late stepmother many many moons ago. She would be a power crank and hone in on my stereo system and PC and such. Wanted me to unplug it every morning. I put up for this for a few weeks until I finally said HEY if you care that much why are all the Cable/Sky boxes still on, wouldn't it make more sense to unplug the TV, or the Cordless phone set when nobody's home?

Never heard another peep about the damn stereo.

Try out the ESB Calculator, works out all common appliances and custom ones.

    https://www.electricireland.ie/ei/residential-energy-services/reduce-your-costs/appliance_calc/appliance_calculator.jsp

    17.6W x 24H (assuming constant / average over 24H) = 25.77 Units

    € 0.075 - Every Day
    € 0.301 - Every Week
    € 2.260 - For 1 Month
    € 4.520 - For 2 Months
    € 6.780 - For 3 Months
    € 13.56 - For 6 Months
    € 27.12 - For Full Year

Only calculated this myself for my home server (VOT132, 18-20W average) :)

I checked 1000W appliance working for 1 hour a week and I got €1.53 per 2 months which means it is €0.17 per kWh. Am I right?

It's 16.67cent per kWh ex vat

and 19.28cent per kWh inc vat @ 13.5%

That esb calculator might be showing the price ex vat... but I haven't checked.

Did you fund it on ESB website? Link please as I couldn't find myself.

Presuming its this one on the electric ireland website rather than the esb website:> https://www.electricireland.ie/ei/residential-energy-services/reduce-your-costs/appliance-calculators.jsp
