Would depend on the hens driving record, any accidents etc.

Do they have any no-claims bonus?

Insurance companies that will quote for that are as rare as hens teeth, bunch of cluckers.

I am going to assume that you are asking if you require insurance above and beyond "social, domestic & pleasure" if you are using your vehicle in your commercial enterprise which involves the raring/keeping/selling of hens?

Just call them and explain, they may charge an additional premium, they may not. It's best to declare it to them and see where it goes.

    Regards commercial tax.

I don't think it's a question of how many hens you have but whether you have a business registered for tax purposes.

You are required to fill out a Goods Only Declaration form.

More along the lines of can i avoid paying 1300 euro private tax on a jeep by keeping a few chickens and using it for " commercial" purposes

Thats all right till they make a cock up some night on the way home from a hen party and end up with your jeep nested in a ditch.

If it's not cheep enough, couldn't the hens get together and "poule" their resources?

the authorities may get suspicious of all this fowl play.

when it comes to having a commerial vechile you need to supply your PPS number. If you have income declared in your tax returns that require the use of a comeerical you can get commerical tax. You can still drive a comerical jeep or van but you would need to pay the full road tax. If you can show that your job requires the need of a commerical vechile then you can get the tax, (farmer, mechainc, dog groomer, etc). What do you do in your day job?

In order to tax a vehicle as commercial you need to make the following declaration:

I declare that vehicle registration number XXXXXXX will be used only as a goods carrying vehicle in the course of my business/trade and will not be used at any time for social, domestic or pleasure purposes.

That's a cock and bull story, they were on their way to the cinema to see 'one flew over the cuckoos nest'
