How much is this watch worth?!

    Hello all

Complete watch novice here - seeking your expert opinions. :D

A relative of mine owns a Precimax 18 karat hand wound solid gold ladies watch. It has a tiny (and I mean tiny!) watch face and a fragile but durable bracelet.

It was purchased in a vintage jewellery shop a number of years ago, whereby it's brand authenticity and the material genuineness (i.e. that is was real gold) were verified by the jeweler. I don't know what era it dates from.

The code on the underside of the watch is 767123791 (if it's any use).

Sorry I don't have any pics (I don't have the watch to hand), but if anyone could hazard a guess to how much it is worth that would be awesome

    Cheers
    LF

Without pics it'll be hard TBH LF. That said a few basic things: Ladies watches tend to be significantly less valuable than mens. As you note the older ones tend to be tiny and that's just not fashionable today(small size can hit vintage mens watch values too). Usually, unless they're a really sought after/top maker like Rolex etc, the value in them is in the gold content.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Thanks Wibbs. Great info there. Might see if I can acquire pics in the next while and upload them to make it easier to value

With very few exceptions, there isn't really a market for vintage ladies watches and they go for very little money indeed.
In your case the value would mostly be determined by the weight of the gold contained in the watch (which in a small watch wouldn't be all that much either)

Sorry to have no better news.

Precimax was a Swiss middle of the road brand making quality watches for "normal" people. The brand died a quiet death (like so many others) with the advent of cheap quartz watches.

The name has now been resurrected in a brand called "Swiss Precimax" which irionically sells mostly cheap quartz watches for highly inflated prices.
