Cancun advice

I'm heading off to Cancun on my honeymoon in July for two weeks and just looking for a bit of advice on a couple of things if anyone here has been there before.

Firstly, I know they accept US dollars aswell as Pesos but what should I bring? Pesos, dollars, or a mixture of both?

Secondly, we'll be staying in the Riu Cancun all inclusive resort. Has anyone ever stayed there before? Any recommendations of things to see/do?

And lastly, I've never been on an all inclusive holiday before so I'm not sure exactly how much spending money to bring with us if practically everything is included. I know it all depends, but roughly how much would we need to bring for two weeks?

    Thanks in advance! :)

I'm jealous, would love to go back. I stayed in the moon palace two ago. Didn't need much spending money as it was all inclusive and they had have a system in the resort where you have $1500 per week credit towards the spa, golf, excursions. We could get change of loads of $1 notes from reception for tips. Id recommend getting them as its easier to understand. I just used the ATMs there. You have a choice of dollars or pesos. We didnt feel pressured to tip all the time either. We stayed in the resort most of the time, did a few trips. Did a thing where you get your own speedboat and go through the lagoon out to a coral reef snorkelling, think this was it http://www.aquatours.travel/activities/jungle-tour-cancun.asp

US dollars is all you will need currency wise. Everyone tips so get loads of $1s in the resort. You don't technically have to tip but the Mexican staff are so nice and get paid so little that everybody does and if you didn't you would look very stingy!

TIP: check out Coco Bongo its awesome!

I found problems getting dollar bills over there - and you will need them. So I'd suggest you start asking around friends and family now for any they may have.

Suugest you ask your bank to start saving small bills for you now e.g 1's, 5's, 10's.

*nice to tip your maid as well. I'd suggest $5/10 every couple of days.

Go on some tours - swimming in a cenote is amazing! I like Chitzen Itsa (or chicken and pizza  as some of the locals call it)

Go to Isla Mujeres for a day trip, you wont regret it.

Its a 15 min ferry ride from Cancun.

i have been to cancun 3 times and all i brought was dollars, ask at a bank to get you some 1$ bills, i normally had 5-10 per day i was there, just for the bar staff/pool servers/waitresses in the evening, and i would usually leave the cleaning person 5-10 every 3-4 days,

Thought the trip to the island was a complete waste of a day, we combined it with snorkeling which was pointless as we didn't see anything in the water. I really wouldn't bother with an island trip as there's so much to do on the mainland.
The adventures parks are very good you should go to Xplor an Xèl Ha you'll have a great day out in each of them there about $100 each but your food and drink is included for the day.
You'll end up spending most of your time at the resort, ask the bartender for a few Bob Marley cocktails and spend your days working on your beach volleyball technique.
Cancun is great your going to have a good time.

Thanks for all the advice folks. Much appreciated.
I'll definitely take note of all this!
So all in all, since its all inclusive, we wouldn't need a hell of a lot of spending money apart from doing tours etc?

....ask the bartender for a few Bob Marley cocktails...

    What are they??
Are they laced with weed or do they have jam in.......

    Get it??

    I'll get my coat.

Seriously though, thanks for all the tips. :)

We're doing 2 weeks in the Riu Cancun. If you come across a pasty white, drunk Irishman....that's probably me! :D

I recommend a visit to the Moon Palace one of the days. It will be all inclusive in any of the Palace resorts and there is a free bus between them.

    Hiya,
I know it's been a while since this was posted but in relation to the all inclusive hotels in Mexico : Are they very strict on clothing for dinner? I'm staying in the Excellence Resort in Puerto Morelos, just outside Cancun and they say trousers and a shirt for men every night etc.. Just wondering has anyone experienced it? Any info would be great!

I didn't stay there but we stayed in another all inclusive hotel in cancun. For dinner in our hotel there were 5 restaurants, 3 casual which were walk in and two formal which were booked the day before. For the formal ones they had a more formal dress code, no shorts flip flops trainers. Ladies wore skirt and sandals and men wore shirt trousers and shoes. But we would put formal clothes on for the dinner and change again for our night out which was more casual
