Tattoo Removal

    Hi all,

I've decided to get my tattoo removed (blue/green in colour).

My question is how successful is laser tattoo removal really - Will it completely get rid of it or will I be left with a pale outline of the tattoo anyway (which in my mind defeats the purpose of getting it removed)?

    Thanks

It completely depends on how deep the ink is in the skin, how competent the laser removal person is, how well your skin heals, your skin tone, etc etc.

There are many variables to consider, but generally, you'd be left with your skin in the area where the tattoo was looking 'bleached' at the least.

    Hi Esoteric,

    Thanks for the reply.

Have you any recommendation for someone who's good at removing tattoos in Cork?
My skin is pretty pale (of the pasty irish variety ;)) so if I avoided the sun, had the tattoo lasered off and then went on a sun holiday after, am I correct in thinking that skin never tans again?

I don't know anywhere in Cork that does laser, sorry, I only know places in Dublin doing it. I have no idea about tanning, as I don't tan, but from a quick Google search, bleached skin can indeed tan, but you'd have to be very careful to use sunscreen on it.

If you don't want to risk your skin being bleached, have you considered using laser treatment to fade it and then getting a cover up done?

    Hi,

I didn't even know there was such a thing as a "coverup" - I'll do a more thorough google search now and will try to find out how obvious the bleaching typically is. The tattoo is on my ankle so if it's only minor bleaching I don't really mind. The reason that I asked in the first place is because I remember a woman in a vest top coming into the place I work a few years back, clearly after coming back from a holiday (she was very tanned) and she had a huge bleached tattoo mark on her back which I though defeated the purpose of having it removed. Maybe that was an unusual case.

    Thanks again.

Are you sure it was a tattoo mark? You're not supposed to tan while the skin is healing, so it could be that she had only recently finished the removal process, or my google search could be wrong. :pac:

Cover ups are great if you want a tattoo 'fixed.' Laser it enough to fade it and then you can get a good artist to do a different design over it, that covers the original design.

The image I'm going to attach is an example of a cover up. The artist covered up a bad tribal tattoo.

My OH got some lasered on order lighten it to make a cover-up easier. The pain, she said, was really bad.
Also, the person doing the laser said that green and blue were the most difficult colours to remove.

Best bet is to phone a clinic that specialises in it.
    Good luck with it
