    hi, can anyone tell me what is the story with getting a license to tow a caravan?

    An ordinary B licence will do in most cases, unless you are talking about a very large caravan towed by a heavy car/suv where the Train Weight (towing vehicle Gross Vehicle Weight + trailer/caravan Gross Vehicle Weight, sometimes refered to as the MTPLM) exceeds 3,500kg, you then need to have a BE licence.
    To get a BE licence you must do a driving test with a suitable trailer.
