Did you try resetting the controller?

The ps button isnt lighting up the battery was going in it earlier so i have it plugged into the console now maybe to try and charge it but with my old controller if the battery was gone and you plugged in the lead it would work straight away and just charge as you were playing the fcuking think is new aswell and was fine earlier im tempted to take it apart

Do this its a tiny pinhole at the back of the controller near the charger slot.

Don't take it apart - if it doesn't work after resetting it, bring it back to the shop where you bought it.
