    Hi There,

So my Hotpoint washing machine has had a good life, washed some shirts, spun the socks round & round, hung out in the kitchen with its buddy the fridge...

Its fairly old, just now, has failed to drain at all, so full of suds and water atm, it tries to spin but cant barely spin the drum, only to washing speed not spin speed, makes a few clunking sounds and the motor isnt smelling the may west...

I just wonder, what you reckon, is it even worth calling someone given its age, its surely 15 yrs old...

Or if you think its something small?

    Cheers

Ok so tried to bite the bullet, towels on the floor, bucket in place, G/F with the mop in hand and........ Door lock won't release and can't open the door :(

    Any suggestions?!

at 15 years it has its best days behind it but to drain it lay the drain hose into a basin or something similar and it will drain itself unless completely clogged up, keep the end of the hose as low as possible, it should spin when empty unless it has other problems, pump is probably worn as the filter system was pretty effective on those machines, you will have to decide if its worth repairing

Thanks Red Ace, will pull it out and try that, if it drains would that unlock the door or any ideas on getting the clothes out?

Sounds like the brushes are gone, and it can't finish its cycle, so the Door lock won't release. Have you tried disconnecting the plug for a few minutes, it may cancel the cycle and allow you to open the door.

If the brushes are gone, no point in getting new ones for a 15 year old machine.

if it is the old 95 series brown facia it will release as the door interlock was pressurised in these models, if it fails to release the belt may have come off as well

Ha ya a brown Electronic 800 plus, classy machine!

Thanks a million guys, pulled it out, put the hose out the back door, drained it out, hey presto door opened once that was done!

Now one last question, before I get myself of to Harvey Norman's or the like, the hot and cold pipes, I presume there is a tap somewhere I need to turn off? Or should I just turn off the mains?

yeah, there should be a tap at the far off end of the fill hoses to turn off the water, all the new washers are only cold fill so hot will be redundant , you should do a bit of research before you buy the new one as they dont make em like that any more the german made ones are probably your best buy

Thanks again Red Ace, not going to get something until next weekend so will do a bit of research during the week... Totally agree, cheapest up front doesn't always stand true longer term!

If the brushes are the basic carbon type with a spring and copper connector then they're only a couple of quid. My machine had the modules that cost €30 a set the last time I replaced them.

Now you have it empty i would check the tub to pump hose for blockage.

The machine will not spin while it still has water in it so at this time i would disregard brushes, it the machine empties but no spin then yes, check brushes.
