Mufflers for Milking Parlour

In an effort to reduce the noise level from my milking parlour, I'm thinking of getting truck mufflers/exhausts for the exhaust pipes from the motors running my milking parlour ...

does anyone have any experience of this? Will it work?

    Thanks

They restrict the air flow too much from the vacuum pump. This will impede performance.

Best plumb it away from the parlour doors. Make sure it's turned away.

Does it catch waste oil too?
Are the exhausts far down into the barrell?

That looks like a very simple solution. How well does it work?

Very well. It's not as good as the bought system but it won't cost you too much to find out. The dealer solution is poisonous dear.

Just checked it the exhaust is barely into barrell it's about 30% full of oil after 3 years. You made me check it.

    No bother..
Its a problem if there is oil near the outlet, or if the exhaust pipe is too low to the ground.. If the pump is stopped incorrectly and runs backwards it can suck in all sorts of crap and ruin the vacuum pump.. I've often seen it happen and its a sickener..

Some motorcycle exhaust silencers are just straight through ( see pic attached)

There is fibreglass kinda stuff between the perforated tube down the middle and the outer housing

    As i said.
If the machine stops suddenly and draws back air through one of these mufflers will may break down and let crap back into the pump.

Mightn't happen straight away but it will happen at some stage.
