    Hey folks,

Someone reversed into me on Sunday,

Just wondering if this would impact my NCT?

There is no damage to the cars functionality itself, the door still opens and closes fine, wheels and axels unaffected etc. The scratches go right to the back of the car.

    Have you a nct upcoming?

Or do you mean would it impact on the validity?

If its the first case, unless there's sharp edges.. and everything still works.. I don't see why it would matter.

If 2nd, nope, nct is valid till the day it runs out..

Naw, my NCT is next year, but, the cost of repair is far greater than the value (2500 to repair it) so if it won't do anything when going to do the NCT I will just spray the exposed metal.

    Thanks for the reply!

Have you any more pics of the damage?

2500 is fair steep  .. surely 2 doors from a breaker would break the back of the repair job?

I don't at the moment, but

The front and back doors look the same, the scrap continues right down to the back of the car, hitting the back panel and back bumper (so that's four sections which need to be repaired and repainted. Also, the mirror is smashed as well (which is cheap but part of the accident)

And yea, its steep, but 4 garages quoted in and around that price.

I was thinking of going to a scrap yard and picking up 2 of the same model doors (don't care if they are the same colour or not) and spraying the back panel and bumper so there is no rust. can pick up a mirror for 50 quid.

If someone reversed into you, why aren't you claiming for the repairs from their insurance?

Well, he has said he wanted to sort it outside insurance, cannot contact him, currently waiting on a reply from my insurance company with advise on what to do.

Should have gotten his insurance details anyway. I'm guessing he might not have had any if he now uncontactable, it seems like he is trying to pull a fast one.

Got his reg, name, addy and number,

Went to cops to report it, they said he was insured and told me the insurer, but didn't have a policy number on file, and since I cannot contact him, they have contacted him demanding he comes to the cop station with the insurance cert.

All sounds good for you then except of course the damage to the car at the moment, he should be forking out for the repairs but to be honest he insurance company might well write it off if the damage is more than the car is worth. Either way you shouldn't have to foot the bill, he was at fault.

2500? could buy 2 or 3 good mk2 puntos for that money :pac:

surely 3-500 would go a long way off this, 2 good doors and a rear bumper in the same colour from a breakers and a little bit of panelwork on the rear quarter.

No, a dent like that should fine as long as there is nothing protruding or jagged.

Give the details to your insurance company, they should able to get his details. If your fully comp, claim on it and then they will get it off his.

EDIT: Since you have his address, go there and get the details off his car, it on a little disk on the windscreen. Probably better bring a good camera for a quick picture in-case he comes running. Had to do this before myself.

Oh the irony (thanks for the suggestion either way)

I went to his house on Friday afternoon to drop in a letter with a copy of the quotes I received, saw his car, took a pic of the insurance disk.

I also checked the back of his car, there is no "damage" to his car, only a line of where the car hit mine, and it was only "scrapped" paint, but his paint wasn't damaged, it was the paint from my car that stuck to his.....damn bigger cars XD

That's mad money for repairs. I was getting quotes of 4k and above to repair boot and bumper damage for a car worth under 2k on the book. Found a place in Dublin to do it for under €400 and who also repaired and fit a face-lift front bumper. This included getting the boot back into shape, reshaping the bumper and spray painting. Shop around. If you get doors from a breakers, half the work is done.

If he is uninsured, and it was his fault, then I don't think this affects your policy if you are comp. It happened to me and I got similar BS. Processed claim and no sting on policy. Think I was liable for the excess though. 6 years ago....
