Micra in need of repair. Scrap or sale?

I'm a newbie to this forum so any help is appreciated.

Been driving a 2001 Micra for a few years, a typical A to B motor, cheap to run etc.. but the last few months have been a hassle. It was never a nice car to drive anyways (extremely stiff accelerator and clutch) but now the passenger door handle is falling off, the timing chain is damaged and the advice I've been given is to either change the timing chain, orto put a new engine in. Both of these are costing upwards of €700-800 and tbh a car of this nature isn't worth the effort for me. The NCT is due at the end of this month so getting rid of the car is probably my best option. Basically what I'm asking is: Should I sell it for scrap and if so to whom (ie: a scrap-yard or one of those 'we buy any car' dealys)? Or would it be worth putting up for sale at a reduced price on adverts or similar, as in is there a market for slightly damaged cars that people may want to have repaired themselves? I'm literally lost as to even what price I might get for scrap or sale if any at all.

    Cheers. :D

Fix the door handle and see how it gets on in the NCT. If it passes I wouldn't bother with the chain and run it until it dies. It might suprise you. Alternatively try sell it with a fresh NCT as it will be worth more if you want something different.

The chains are known for making noises in those, my sister sold one about 5 years ago like it. It's still going around the place as a delivery car for dominos with the same rattle!

Thanks for the reply. I have considered this, although obtaining a door handle has been virtually impossible. Trying everywhere, including my local Nissan dealer (who specialise in this) who haven't even replied to me yet. Ridiculous. I would consider selling it if I can get it through the NCT or could get a replacement timing chain. Just don't think it's a car worth investing any money into as it is.

For the love of Mike stay away from Nissan dealers with that thing. The best place for things like door handles is a breaker's - that's Celtic Tiger speak for a scrapyard. You'll probably end up replacing the entire door for a better one for under a hundertpound, bass.

What kind of mileage is up on it?

Pretty low actually. Roughly 77k. Yeah I've been all over the place in scrapyards. Not a Micra door in sight strangely enough.

Mmm. Could be just the chain tensioner worn out - that happens on 'em.

replaced the chain on my old almera - was 500 euro 2 years ago.
try partsfinder.ie for the door handle

Think I've sourced a door handle at least.. Cheers lads. If I can get the chain replaces relatively cheaply it might be worth doing it, NCT-ing and selling
