Rode it last year too and would highly recommend it. Can't make it this year unfortunately - hope it goes well for a really active and committed club.

    Basic Info for this year

"After a very successful relauch of Ras Clar in 2012, Dolmen Cycling is hosting a bigger and enhanced Ras Clar on Sunday June 9th. With over 2k in prize money and racing for A1, A2, A3, A4 , Juniors & Ladies, it promises to be an action packed day.

There are four races structured as follows
    110k A1/A2 with 2 KOH, prizes for first 10 [ 2 laps ]
    110k A3/Junior with 2 KOH, prizes for first 10 [ 2 laps ]
    61k A4 with prizes for first 8 [ 1 lap ]
    61k Ladies with prizes for first 6 [ 1 lap ]
Racing start at 1.00 pm from race HQ , located at Barefield school, Barefield, Ennis Co Clare (Junction 14 off the M18)
    Sign on from 10.00am
    Refreshments and changing rooms available"

The A1/A2 race last year was 2 laps and 158K but the general feedback was that it was a bit too long so has been shortened to 2 laps.

Garmin stats for last years A4 race

    http://connect.garmin.com/activity/204628681

The hill broke it up and there were at least 4 good sized groups by the end of it.

Its not actually that steep a hill, nothing like Broadford for example. There was just a good push on it in the 4's last year and that caused the split. And the groups worked well together once over the top so the splits stuck.

A3 race was as slow and as bad as the a4 races I did at start of season, too many lads not willing to chase down guys ahead, but when a few lads tried to bridge across at diff times they where hunted down and when lads got to them they would not come around and to a turn, even in the last 10km we got time check for 30 sec's and it was the same lads trying to get it down,it is very annoying when lads don't want to put in the effort and chase the leaders and try win the race, they would rather try win the gallop,I was amazed at one stage to hear a lad from fermoy constantly roaring and shouting at lads at front to keep driving during the last 10km when not once would he come around and too a turn,he was asked did he want to do a turn and if not shut the **** up.

Another thing I cant understand is lads throwing gel wrappers away, its a disgrace and who they think they are eh,it dont take much to keep your rubbish and put back in or tuck it under their jersey.

    I did the A4 race..................scorchio !!
Great set-up, great circuit, fair play to the lads for giving us time gaps along the way, myself and a few others had to dig deep on the descent to bridge a 20/30sec gap. My computer recorded an avg temp @ 26'C and the last 30km @ avg HR of 175 !
Cathal O'Donovan blazed a trail again, left all of us for dead, that's 2 weeks in a row, personally I don't have a gripe with it but surely he should have went straight into A3 ??

Did the A4 race myself, was in that group chasing on the descent. I presume you were with us just behind the lead group going up the climb so? I knew if we didn't get across by the Gort Road it would've been tricky to make it back on. Could've done with not going so hard on the descent, legs were feeling it with about 15 km to go. Came in 8th so first points on the license (I think), so happy with that for second race of the season.

Fair play to the lad who rode away, great display. Get the feeling that a few organised riders could've worked together and chased him down eventually if they worked, but I gather that doesn't really happen in A4.

Great race though, very well organised, no shortage of marshals on islands etc. You know it's a hot one when your picking tar off your legs after the race.

There was a few technical problems with the finish line. ;)

Seriously though, it was a great race. Well done to Dolmen CC for pulling out all the stops and making it a real occasion. Well worth the drive down from Dublin.

Great race yesterday in beautiful conditions. Safest race of the year I found. Only crash I saw was a guy falling first time down the descent at fairly high speed but he seemed ok and was on his feet very quickly although probably a bit stiff today I imagine.

Was annoyed not to get in it the break but was a bit too far back second time up the climb. Only a few fellas willing to work including a ver strong Visit Nenagh chap, a Tralee guy, Dublin Wheelers, an Iverk Produce and several others putting in a few shifts on the front but no one else willing to make a push. Then 2 guys tried to bridge across which was a pity as if they had put in some of that effort on the front to close the gap it would have been wiser but each to their own. They hey didnt make it across and not sure if they placed.

Fair play to Pawlie for pointing out the littering problem. Not nice to see and it is easy enough to put a wrapper back in your pocket. Great day out anyway. Hope tone back next year for it with a better result.
