    I think you just did:)........
I really like him and I enjoyed the episode last night. I've no desire to get into the debate about whether a 7 hour marathon is something to be proud of or not.
I'm actually feeling a little guilty for taking a break from training at the moment; I feel I could have at least kept going until my pee turns purple:D
Maybe it's just because he has adopted Krusty's tried and tested beetroot juice diet?

He's the guy with the world record in the marathon isn't he? Legend. All those marathons, amazing. I bet he'd take those skinny Africans to the cleaners if they weren't all afraid to race him..

I did get the invite, it sounds very tempting:)

The invite is for an all-expenses paid trip to South Africa to run 27 marathons;)

I enjoyed the show last night, but it does come across that he is woefully unprepared for the challenge. I couldn’t hear what he said when asked how much training he had done, but I get the feeling it wasn’t a lot. I cringed when I saw him wearing the barefoot runners for the first time, who in their right mind would wear those for the first time before running 27 marathons! Anyone I have spoken to about changing over to minimalist trainers advocates either doing it over a period of months, or basically starting from scratch with them and start by running 500-1000m in them. Not to mention the fact that he is running in them on very rough terrain, it seems like he is making it deliberately difficult for himself.

I could really feel his pain during the last few K of the third marathon last night. He must have been running 12 hours at that stage judging by how dark it was and then to know you have to get up and do another one tomorrow and the day after, and the day after!

I did enjoy it, but I would have enjoyed it more had he been a bit better prepared for it. The runner in me would like to see how a really well prepared ultra marathoner would cope with the challenge. But then I suppose it adds to the drama and entertainment to see him struggling.

i just don't get the point of the whole thing. what's the message it's trying to get across? what's it trying to achieve? personally id rather see a programme on one well trained runner running one marathon and the journey involved in the process or an ultra runner doing this particular challenge properly.

Not watched it yet, but sounds like he is approaching this exactly the same way that he did last time ... completely unprepared.

That wouldn't make for a very entertaining program though, people need to do things wrong to make good telly.

I definitely see your point but sometimes it's nice to watch TV that doesn't make sense. As Robin says it's more entertaining. Bottles of purple pee will get better ratings:)
He definitely could do with losing a few pounds and is very underprepared but his mental strength and positive attitude is something I can definitely admire and I think he's funny.

That’s another thing that puzzled me a bit, he doesn’t seem to be doing it for charity this time, just as a tribute to Mandela. I agree with Ososlo, I’m not exactly sure what the point of the show is, it’s neither a charity fundraiser or a properly trained for endurance event. It’s a bit strange.

But I agree with Marthastew and Shels4ever, he is very entertaining and comes across as a really decent guy. Even in the depths of his misery, he was still saying hello to everyone he met. And as Marthastew says, whatever he lacks in physical fitness, he has bucket loads of positivity and mental strength!

To see an elite athlete doing something mostly properly then watch the James Cracknell ones that tend to get shown on Discovery every now and again, shame he got hit by a lorry and got some brain damage in the last one he tried to do.
It probably helps with his TV presenting skills that his missus is a TV presenter, but most elite athletes are pretty rubbish infront of the camera unless they are performing their sport, get them to speak and they are duller than a very very dull thing. It's not until they have retired from competing that they learn how to be more interesting infront of the camera.

This programme sounds crap. Glad I turned it off.

Haven't and won't be watching it. If I was Nelson Mandela I'd be well pissed off. Some tribute, a fat under prepared transvestite running around your country followed by a camera crew is not doing it for anyone else but them self!

I think you might have offended half the discussion catagories on boards just there, Camera crews are very touchy, :D

I was hoping to get some insight into preperation for the 10 in 10 in July and all I got was to squat as soon as you finish and avoid rabid dogs. Both tips will come in hand in Clare, but he's only done 3 in the first episode of a two part documentry. Either he doesn't finish it, or he picks up the pace exponentially in the last part.

The only think I have to look forward to in July is comparing my pee to a Dulux colour chart and worrying about if I missed the slaughtering and currying of the goat before I get to the finish.

Must not making comment about SA 800m runners...

He stopped after 4 days due to health issues. He ended up in hospital. He hopes to go back in the autumn to do it again.
I admire the tenacity of the guy. His previous marathons in Britain were amazing. It matters not how fast or slow he did them. To run 42 marathon in I think 45 days was simply amazing .
He is certainly not the most athletic looking guy ever, but look around the fields of any race guys and tell me how many of us are true athletic specimens.
It is simply not realistic for anyone to say that he is doing this for his own benefit. He raised millions in Britain. Any money he raises this time is for some Mandela trust and knowing Izard it won't be a small amount he raises. He does not need to do publicity stunts , he does this because he feels he can make a difference and I think fair play to him for putting himself thro the pain and torture again. Hope he completes the challenge in the autumn

I watched an interesting "real" ultra/ running documentary there the other week...."Running the Sahara"....now that was entertaining.....I heard about it from this forum....recommend watching it....I'd never heard of it.

Jesus, what a pompous ass. He's hitching his wagon to the struggle against Apartheid, by running slowly, unprepared, and failing badly. If you're going to seriously do this (quite achievable) jog for some half-arsed notion of commemoration, at least do your subject justice by laying off the snacks leading up to it.

well fair play to him, havent watched this one but watched the last and as a lazy fat unathletic person he was a great influencer in why I took up running, I just completed a PB 25min 5k last night and have two marathons to my name.. If doing this show gets people motivated and into running and fitness its all good.

Kurt. U r the one sounding pompous. At what stage does he appear pompous. He does a whole lot more than the majority to raise funds or highlight issues . How that comes across as pompous I will never know

Anyone who knows me will tell you I'm pompous all right, but you couldn't tell that from what I posted;)

I'm going to do 2,977 push-ups, over 911 days, to commemorate the victims of the Sept 11 attacks. You'll donate to my fund that has my name on it. I'll give up after a few days, but that's ok because I'll release a statement saying "I'll never give up". Its a win-win because my name gets in de papers and its all for charidee and maybe Special AKA will write a song about my struggle too.

(I reckon the TV licence man nabbed Anto, now he gets his evenings entertainment by starting a thread like this, sits back and sucks a beer...;))
